On this day in 2001, the music world lost one of its true visionaries when Aaliyah, who was only 22 years old at the time, died in a plane crash along with eight other passengers after filming her music video "Rock The Boat" in the Bahamas, which just so happens to be my favorite video of hers. Her tragic passing came just as she was releasing her best album in my opinion entitled "Aaliyah", which had come out only a month prior to hear death. Aaliyah's passing was tragic, and her absence still stings me as well as many others, but her songs and videos will live on forever.
Just when you thought music was starting to sing the some old tune, along comes this petite, leg twisting body jerking, cybergirl, named Janelle Monae. It's hard to put her into a box of Rhythm and Blues or neosoul because lil momma is so eclectic and has a style of her own. This joint below entitled "Tightrope" is a banger. *So go ahead, scroll up/down and put my MIXPOD (cd player) on pause and take a listen to this joint* This chick is pure dopeness and surely one of my fav artist. I'm looking forward to more fresh music from Janelle. Hopefully her career doesn't end before she really blows up. She's signed to Bad Boy...and you know how Diddy does it:)
Monica premiered her new video “Everything To Me” a couple of days ago featuring Chad Ochocinco as her leading man and all I can say is SHE'S BACK ~ I keep hearing mixed reviews regarding her new cd "Still Standing" so I definately have to check it out for myself ~ I must say Monica looks absolutely stunning in this video ~ The video was dedicated to the late Alexander McQueen and she wore pieces by the British designer throughout the video ~ Check it out below!
I had the pleasure of seeing Rahsaan Patterson in concert for the 2nd time (Thnx Tee-Tee Yet) at the Huntington Beach Library Theatre recently, and the acoustic soul energy this brotha put into the show was truly amazing ~ What captivates me the most about Rahsaan is his undeniable soulful voice, and the way he uses it so effortlessly ~ He is blessed with a unique voice that brings pure joy to my ears, mind and soul ~ If you don't have any of his CD's.....you should definitely cop one or all of them ~ My favorite CD is his 1st "Rahsaan Patterson" ~ This CD is bangin from beginning to end ~ This cat is definitely "THE TRUTH" ~ Check out his video below!
